What is Executive Coaching/Anger Management?

Executive Coaching is a skill-focused intervention. Skill focused coaching is distinct from both teaching, which largely relies on one-way instruction, and training development, which is a more sophisticated form of instruction that is typically two-way or interactive. Skill-focused coaching emphasizes learning in the context of a professional relationship with a coach who is both process and content-oriented.

Anger management is focused on skill-enhancement in communication, conflict management, stress management and emotional intelligence. With executive coaching, the nature of the relationship between the coach and the client is qualitatively different from a relationship in teaching or training and development. In some ways it is similar to the relationship of a patient and a therapist. The relationship in executive coaching involves respect, trust, concern, caring, and confidentiality. Unlike teaching or training, wherein the teacher or trainee assumes the role of expert, the relation in coaching is typically collaborative.

The process begins with a comprehensive non-psychiatric assessment utilized to determine the coachees assets and deficits in the recognition and management of anger, recognition and management of stress, prinicple styles of communication and the degree of empathy or emotional intelligence. The coaching process includes workbooks, posters, assignments and practice sessions designed to enhance skills in the four areas mentioned above. Folowing the completion of the intervention, a post-test is administered to determine the results of the intervention. Executive coaching/Anger management is currently one of the most requested interventions for JCAHO defined “disruptive physicians.
